What sun protection should I choose?

The return of sunny days is fast approaching and only one question torments you: "Which sunscreen will I choose?" Between creams, milks, oils, sprays…you can't find your way around. Parapharmacy Store can help you choose the ideal sun protection for your skin!

Which SPF is for me?

It is important to choose the right protection index according to your complexion, that is to say the color of your skin. Different levels exist depending on your skin color, and they are classified by the mentioned SPF followed by a number.

SPF 15: Medium protection, for dull skin that does not get sunburned.

SPF 30: High protection, fair skin that tans fairly easily, only getting sunburned during intense exposure.

SPF 50+: Very high protection for very fair skin, redheads, freckles, or those who sunburn very easily and tan with difficulty. It is also the index you should use when you go to the mountains or ski in the winter.

And for my child?

Your child's skin is immature, it is thinner and therefore more fragile. For example, on a day at the beach, their skin is three times more exposed to UV rays than that of adults. For that reason, it must be protected with a high protection index (50+).

Cream, milk, and oil... What's the difference?

It is necessary to choose the texture of a cream according to the type of skin and the part of the body.

- If you have dry or sensitive skin, prefer a cream to a milk. Its texture is more comfortable and it is more resistant to water.

- A milk, by its texture, is reserved for a normal combination to oily skin as well as young skin. It will be more appreciated in the summer because it is more practical to spread than a cream.

- Sun oils or mists have the same effectiveness as creams as long as they have the same indices. However, they should be spread generously. We tend not to apply them enough because of their thin and liquid texture. In this case, the protection is therefore not homogeneous!

- The sprays allow a more homogeneous application. They are preferred for application over large areas, unlike sticks, which facilitate precise applications. For lips or sensitive areas (nose, cheekbones, ears, scars, etc.), the sticks are perfect.

To enjoy the sun safely, follow these tips carefully:

  • Do not expose yourself between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., UV rays are more dangerous during these hours.
  • Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours because the product penetrates and, therefore, becomes less effective. Do the same after each swim because of friction, even if your cream is water resistant!
  • Do not expose young children to the sun, put them in the shade with a hat, glasses, and light clothing. Hydrate them often.
  • For your sunscreen products, respect the expiry dates, especially when the tube has already been opened because the proliferation of bacteria is high! After the expiry date, sunscreens lose their effectiveness.
  • To prepare your skin, food supplements from ingredients of natural origin will allow you to tan evenly and more quickly. Be careful, they do not replace sun protection!
  • If you are flying, remember that in the cabin, you cannot take bottles larger than 100 ml. Most laboratories have thought of travelers by developing small packaging.
